Start with the mirror, not the fixture
For side sconces, the fixture should feel balanced with the mirror height and leave comfortable clearance from faucets, cabinets, and doors.
For a small powder room mirror, slim vertical sconces usually feel cleaner. For a wider vanity mirror, paired sconces or a longer vanity light can give more even face lighting.
Placement notes
Many bathrooms look best when paired sconces sit near eye level, with the light source slightly above or around face height.
Check the backplate size and junction-box position before ordering, especially if you are replacing an older fixture.

Measure mirror width, wall clearance, projection from wall, and the distance to nearby cabinet doors.
For wet or damp areas, confirm the fixture location and rating before installation.
